MS3057 Cable Clamps and MS3420 Bushings: Sizing Guide for MIL-DTL-5015 Connectors

MS3100-series connectors (MS3100, MS3101, MS3102, MS3106, MS3108) ship without strain relief. The MS3057 cable clamp threads onto the rear of the connector and grips the cable; the MS3420 bushing sits inside the clamp and adapts it to the cable diameter.

The A suffix is the standard aluminum clamp with a neoprene bushing seat; C adds a compression washer for a tighter seal (MS3057-16C).

MS3420 telescoping bushings

MS3420 bushings are neoprene sleeves that nest inside one another. The dash number matches the clamp: MS3420-8 goes with MS3057-8A. Each bushing reduces the clamp opening by one step; stack two to reach a smaller cable jacket. MS3420-8 has an inside diameter of 0.437 in and is the most common size on 16S and 16 shells.

When to use M85049/51 instead

For MS3450-series crimp connectors, or when the drawing calls for a modern saddle-clamp strain relief, use M85049/51 straight or /52 90-degree instead of MS3057.
