MS25042 vs MS25043: Which MIL-DTL-5015 Protective Cover Do You Need?
Ask ten buyers which cap goes on a MIL-DTL-5015 plug and half will get it backwards. The rule is simple once you see the geometry.
MS25042 covers receptacles
An MS25042 cap is shaped like a plug: it has external threads that screw into the coupling ring of a receptacle (MS3100, MS3101, MS3102, MS3450, MS3451, MS3452). It closes the open socket face on a panel or box.
MS25043 covers plugs
An MS25043 cap is shaped like a receptacle: internal threads that the plug’s coupling nut screws onto. It closes the pin face of an MS3106, MS3108, MS3456 or MS3459 plug hanging on a cable.
Reading the dash number
MS25042-28DA: 28 is the shell size, which must match the connector shell size exactly. D means the cap has an attachment chain. DA adds an attachment ring so the chain can be captured under a mounting screw or clamp. Older parts without a suffix have no chain.

Does an MS25042 fit an MS3106 plug?
No. MS25042 fits receptacles. Use MS25043 in the same shell size for an MS3106 or MS3108 plug.
What is the difference between MS25042-16D and MS25042-16DA?
Both are size 16 receptacle caps with a chain. DA adds an attachment ring on the end of the chain for mounting.
Are MS25042 caps sealed?
They protect against dust and impact and most include a gasket, but they are not qualified as an environmental seal.
