About MIL-DTL-38999 Series I
MIL-DTL-38999 Series I (scoop-proof, odd shell sizes 9 to 25) and Series II (low-silhouette, even shell sizes 8 to 24) are the bayonet-coupled predecessors of Series III and are still specified across legacy airframes, avionics boxes and ground support equipment. They use the same MIL-STD-1560 insert arrangements as Series III, so a 15-35 insert carries 37 size-22D contacts in every series, and they are rated -65 °C to +200 °C (cadmium finishes to +175 °C). Series I plugs carry RFI grounding fingers; Series II trades some EMI shielding for a shorter mated length. Both remain in production for sustainment programs.
