About MIL-DTL-38999 Series III
MIL-DTL-38999 Series III is the standard high-density circular connector for military aircraft, missiles, ground vehicles, naval systems and space. The triple-lead Tri-Start threaded coupling fully mates in about a third of a turn, self-locks against vibration and gives a visible full-mate indication. Shells are scoop-proof, so a misaligned plug cannot damage pins, and plugs carry EMI grounding fingers that give 90 dB of shielding at 100 MHz. Insulation resistance is 5,000 megohms minimum and dielectric withstanding voltage 1,000 V RMS at sea level for the standard M service rating. Series III connectors intermate across every qualified manufacturer (Amphenol, Glenair, Souriau, TE Deutsch, Conesys) when shell size, insert arrangement, contact gender and key position match, and they accept the same MIL-DTL-85049 backshells and D38999/32 and /33 covers.
