MIL-DTL-85049 (now SAE AS85049) is the qualified-products specification for connector backshells: strain reliefs, E-nuts, shrink-boot adapters, EMI adapters and flanges. Glenair is the leading QPL source. A backshell is ordered by slash sheet, self-locking code, shell size and finish letter. It must match the thread and shell size of the connector, and the finish should match the connector class: W (cadmium) backshells on Class W connectors, N (nickel) on Class F, Z on Class Z, S on stainless and hermetic connectors.
